International Collaboration

Dear Room13Delmar artists’ families,

Your young artists are collaborating on artwork with a studio of young artists in Bristol, England. I have collaborated with the adult artists in that studio and know how powerful it is to create with other artists, especially artists who live in another country. All of the young artists of Renaissance Place at Grand will create artwork for an upcoming exhibition in St. Louis. This artwork will then be sent to the Tate Modern Museum in London to be exhibited there.

I have been raising funds to take two of the young artists to Bristol at the end of the school year, they would be accompanied by myself and Erika Wilson. The artists will meet the other young artists and work together in their studio. Together, they will design the project that they will share with their other studio mates when they return to St. Louis. All expenses for the trip will be provided for each young artist including their passport fees, airplane tickets, train tickets from London to Bristol, housing and food.

I am writing to ask if you would consider allowing your young artist to take part in this trip. She has been chosen because of her seriousness about her artwork and her kindness toward others. I know, from my own children, that traveling helps them to imagine themselves in a larger world. I also know how hard it is to trust someone with your children. If you are interested, I would be happy to meet with you to answer all questions.
